Sujit Kumar Mandal Memorial Fund

Sujit Kumar Mandal Memorial Fund

Background:

Sujit Kumar Mandal - a highly talented student, after completing his B.Sc. (Hons.) in Chemistry from City College, Calcutta University, got admission to the Chemical Engineering Department of Rajabazar Science College in 1989. He came from a village called Mahajon under Ramnagar Police Station (currently in East Midnapore district). Apart from highly academic calibre and a promising career in Chemical Engineering, he was a humble, gentle and soft-spoken young student who was very well-liked by his teachers and friends in the department. The teachers in the department and all his classmates were optimistic about a bright future of Sujit. On the ill-fated morning of Wednesday 4th April 1990, when Sujit was on his way to attend lectures, a mishap happened just in front of campus main gate. An overloaded truck, breaking all traffic rules, hit him while he was walking along dedicated tramlines of A.P.C. Road. He was immediately brought to N.R.S. Medical College & Hospital. Unfortunately, all kinds of supports and prayers failed and the doctors declared him dead on that day. This sudden demise of Sujit had come as a big shock to the whole community of students and all faculty members in the campus. Calcutta University Chemical Engineering Alumni Association (CUChEAA) in collaboration with the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Calcutta is organizing "The Reunion 2018" on December 22 and 23, 2018. On this occasion, a "Felicitation Ceremony" will be held where the students who took admission in 1989 and passed B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering in 1992 will be felicitated for completing more than 25 years of their graduation from the Department. Sujit will be sadly missed on this occasion and forever remembered by his classmates.

Proposal:

We, the Alumni of the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Calcutta passed B. Tech. in Chemical Engineering in 1992 (Session: 1989 - 1992), propose to set up a tribute fund of amount INR 8,51,992/= from our individual contributions, in loving memory of our beloved friend, the Late Sujit Kumar Mandal. It is proposed that the fund will be donated to Calcutta University Chemical Engineering Alumni Association (CUChEAA) and will be utilized for the benefit of students of Chemical Engineering Department, University of Calcutta. The raised amount will be under the custody of the CUChEAA and will be used following general guidelines of the 'Memorandum of Association' and 'Rules & Regulations' as laid down under Societies Registration Act. The fund thus raised by 1992 B.Tech. passed out batch will be utilized for pre-placement training of the B. Tech. and M. Tech. Final year students of the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Calcutta. The Fund may also be used for any advanced level technical course, which may not be part of the curriculum, however, may be useful for industrial need at that period. The Fund may also be utilized to explore possibility of deploying Technical Experts (having basic knowledge of Chemical Engineering) during the training session for putting additional information. Any other passed out batch or individual of alumni may contribute to the "Fund" provided they agree the Terms and Conditions of the "Fund". However, the name of the "Fund" and purpose of creating the "Fund" should not be changed or modified.
